With its stunning visuals, immersive gameplay, and lively community, Sea of Thieves delivers an unparalleled pirate experience that will keep you coming back for more. So gather your crew, raise the anchor, and prepare for an epic adventure unlike any other.
Sea of Thieves is one of the most enjoyable co op experiences I’ve ever played, every member in your crew will always have a job to do on board your ship meaning coordination between your friends is essential for doing well in this game. It’s refreshing to have a co op game where actual cooperation is necessary. There are a variety of roles that your crew members can be assigned to such as helm who steers the ship and the cannoneer who focusses on blasting your enemies.
When I first started out in Sea of Thieves with my friends we naturally knew nothing about what was going on, being annihilated by an enemy ship within minutes of setting sail into the open world, we earned gold with the least efficient methods in the game and grinded for curses to make out characters look sweaty without realizing the ashen curse was infamous for being a noob cosmetic.
As we continued to play and gain experience, we chose our crew roles and discovered the best ways to earn gold and to beat our enemies, we even started hiding on other players’ ships and on forts to steal their loot at the last second. The amount of content and creativity in this game is insane and is enough to keep any player occupied for hundreds of hours. You have the ability to create your own scenarios, for example you load into a server and find the extremely rare Fort of The Dammed is active and decide to ambush the pirates completing it and take everything for yourself. There are countless ways to approach this goal. You can take the classic route and sail up to the enemy and blast them to shreds with your cannons or you could stealthily swim to their ship and plant explosive kegs, blowing them up without any risk. The creativity you can bring into this game is what separates it from everything else available on the market right now and never gets old.
To end this review I’ll make a list of each of the positive and negative aspects of this game in my opinion.
Positives:
Huge open world map
Massive pool of random world events
Unique stylized art style and beautiful locations
Fun and skill based PvP
Tons of in game rewards to work towards
Active community in game and on discord
Functional and fun CoOp
No games out there like Sea of Thieves
Freedom to play however you want
Negatives:
Toxic playerbase
A lot of cheaters
Lots of grinding required for unlocks
Lack of consistent updates
5+ month long seasons and uninspired battle pass
No real end game content and progression
Not designed for solo players
Boring and repetitive PvE combat
Overall if you like CoOp games with PvP and an open world I can't recommend you and your friends try out this game, you can easily sink hundreds of hours into this game and it only gets better with time if you don't focus on grinding unlocks and stick to what you find fun in the game.
